Since 1903, Bethel has been a major part of the fabric of the Madison community. It is standing strong; providing outreach to those in need, spiritual guidance, hope and love.

What We Believe
What we believe is summed up in the Apostle's Creed:

We believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Universal Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

ABOUT OUR PASTOR
Rev. Damon Mitchell is an awesome leader, pastor, conference leader, and gifted songwriter/artist. He became pastor Bethel AME Church in Madison, Illinois in September 2025. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education & Development from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale; MBA from Lindenwood University; Master of Divinity from Regent University, and a Data Analytics certificate from Cornell University.​​​

Rev. Mitchell is wonderfully married to his best friend Tamika and is the proud father of Gabrielle (College Student) and Gavin (High School).
